Mesh messaging: when a chat jumps from phone to phone

Two phones on Bluetooth are a direct link. A mesh starts only when a third phone, with the same app, forwards the message.
Direct link versus a chain
If A can radio B, that is peer-to-peer. If A reaches C only because B forwards, that is application-level mesh. It is not nationwide coverage and it is not the Bluetooth SIG lighting profile unless a vendor says so.
